Siesta
2006 Grey Dutch Warmblood Mare
Sleipner (REAA) x Donnacona
Owned by Sand Creek Stables
Note from Amanda:
Exactly what Elaine said about "Sally" came true about this little lady
came true. She is extremely bold and curious about everything
that we teach her, but that is extremely wonderful in a jumper prospect.
She has
absolutely no fear and when we give her a new task, she hardly even looks
at it. Nothing phases her, and we hope that
this is not a bad thing as her career progresses because she does not
cautiously approach obstacles. Sally wants to be
involved in everything going on in the barns -- she is easily distracted
there. She also likes to nip. We have been working with
her on that, but her handlers should watch out for that.
First Observation Notes:
Lovely mare!
She's got great balance, and really knows how to push through with her hind end.
I see what you're saying about not looking at the jumps.
On one hand, this is great! On the other hand, it's not.
I like my horses to briefly study a jump as they're coming up to it, I feel it helps them to know (on their own, without help from me) where to place their feet.
This is greatly helpful if the rider somehow screws up headed to a jump, a horse can still safely get to a jump and up and over it. Siesta doesn't seem to study the jumps at all.
This could very well be because they're so small, and she's just bored.
I'll have to see what she does over something a bit bigger before deciding on a plan of action.
